Year Twelve briefing notes – for the week starting Monday 21st July

untitledAll,

First of all, as this is indeed my last post to you, can I say what a delight it has been to work with you over the past year. I hope that you all have a lovely summer, and GOOD LUCK for your AS examinations and your future plans.

A few points for the summer.

  • If for any reason you do not get the results that you need the best advice that I can give you is to talk to us as soon as possible. There will be staff here to help you in the days following results day, and you will almost certainly  have more options than you think you have. Three useful email addresses for you;

1. Mr Hand rhand@littleheath.w-berks.sch.uk

2. Ms Vignali gvignali@littleheath.w-berks.sch.uk

3. Mrs Bullion cbullion@littleheath.w-berks.sch.uk

  • Speak to your subject teachers about what is the most helpful thing for you to do to get ahead over the summer. Work done now will almost certainly help you get ahead for that busy busy Autumn term.

  • I know that I have said this to you so mnay times, but it does remain good advice. Any work experience that you can get over the summer will greatly help you with your future applications.

Mr Kydd.

EPQ Update

EPQ-level-3Nearly all of you attended the library visits over the last 2 weeks and this should have kick started your research.  It is so important to do some serious research over the summer.  If you don’t, there is a strong likelihood that your project will not be very good or that you drop out.  The most common reflection from students who have done the EPQ is ‘I wish I’d done more research earlier’.

Your EPQ course has, in effect, started.  When you come back in September you should have started your log (see previous post for link).  You should note what you have done and how your library visit went and also reflect on any conversations you have had with me, Mr Male, Ms Vignali or your teachers.

There will be a short meeting in the Upper 6th Common Room on Tuesday at break time.  You will be given your EPQ student book, which you should use to help you over the summer.

You should also download these documents: Starting the EPQ EPQ schedule[1] EPQ_Timeline[1]

Your EPQ lesson will appear on your timtable as soon as you have given in the paperwork you will be given where you indicate which subject you are going to drop.

Year Twelve (Thirteen) briefing notes – for the week starting Mondau 14th July

finishlineAll,

The end of term is of course fast approaching, and I can promise you that staff are as tired as you are. Nevertheless it really important that we finish strongly. Three matters for the week ahead please.

1. There is a voluntary assembly at 1.20 in the Upper Sixth Common Room at 1.20 on Monday. This is to follow on from the excellent presentation that Sam Hunt from  SURF gave us about Rwanda. We want set up a charity working party from September to organise fund raising for Alvere and his family. GET INVOLVED.

2. Please keep pushing hard on your studies. I would also expect you to take something meaningful to read / be undertaking for your A Level studies over the long summer break. Please talk to your teachers about this.

3. Remember your target of having a post-Little Heath plan worked out by 23rd July please. Again, can I stress the importance of targeting work experience in the summer holidays.

Keep going,

Mr Kydd.
