Enjoy the summer…

summersunWe all just wanted to wish you all a very nice summer and ensure you have a good rest!  Remember to try to use your time wisely over the holidays to complete things that will make you more attractive in any application you make.  This could be work experience, EPQ research, further reading, voluntary work for example.

A-Level Result Day – Thursday 17th August (8.30 for year 13, 9.30 for year 12) in the 6th form centre.

6th form registration – Thursday 24th August (9.00 to 2.00), Friday 25th August (10.00 to 1.00), Tuesday 29th August (10.00 to 1.00) in the 6th form centre.

YOU WILL BE IN ONE OF 3 SESSIONS WHICH WILL BE IN S1 FROM 11.20.

YOU WILL BE TEXTED SO YOU KNOW WHICH ONE TO GO TO.

THESE SESSIONS ARE COMPULSORY AND YOU MUST LET MRS BELL/MR HAND KNOW IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND – BUT YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD REASON!

Year 13 Oxford Application Information Day

univ2Applications are now open for the Year 13 Oxford Application Information Day on Saturday 16th September. This day is part of the Oxford Pathways programme for non-selective state schools and colleges. The Application Information Day will allow students to get further information and advice on making an application to Oxford, including the opportunity to view a demonstration interview. Please see these guidance notes OXAID 2017 for more information.

The Application Information Day is free to attend, and we may be able to offer travel bursaries to some or all attendees (of a type and amount to be determined). Overnight accommodation will be available for those traveling the furthest distances to reach Oxford.

Applications for this day must be made by the students themselves. Please send details of this event to students who may be interested. For further details and the application form, please visit our website: www.pathways.ox.ac.uk. The deadline for making an application is 12 noon on Monday 31st July. Students will find out whether their application has been successful by the end of Monday 14th August.

A-level Philosophy Website

philosophyMr Eden has set up a website to help students studying Philosophy.

It has specification, past papers, the reading list from the specification for each topic and a link page for each topic on high quality, free podcasts and videos (some individual, some whole courses) relevant to the course.

Careers Bulletin 070717

This week in the Careers Bulletin we have over 150 apprenticeship vacancies advertised in our local area and one degree apprenticeship which I noticed , this is with Visa. To see these vacancies please check your email or access Show My Homework.

I have attached an article about Careers in the Horse Racing Industry to highlight the various areas available within this sector and also because there are a number of apprenticeship vacancies in this field advertised this week.

The bulletin contains advice on how to research careers and offers a few recommended websites which may be of interest.  The following areas are also mentioned:

  • Radiography
  • Physics and Engineering in Medicine
  • Progress Theatre Summer School
  • Music Careers
  • Young Film Makers Academy
  • Channel 4 Work Experience for those aged 18+

Careers Bulletin 300617

This week the Careers Bulletin highlights the career of a Dancer and Choreographer – Mr Lindon Barr.

For students seeking employment there are the following opportunities mentioned:

  • HR Administration Apprentice with Reading Fire and Rescue Service
  • Visa – Degree Apprenticeships
  • Care and Support Workers , both full and part time at Purley Park Trust
  • Ernst & Young Information Evening
  • UK Medical work Experience

For students aged 18 – 25 who have an interest in working in the radio or on social media there is a fabulous opportunity to work with BBC Radio Berkshire on  workshops related to ” Greenham: 100 Years of War and Peace”  This will be a unique experience and I urge interested students to please avail of this opportunity – more details can be found within the bulletin!
