Sutton Trust summer school opportunities

sutton trustAll,

The Sutton Trust is an excellent oganisation, which has helped many Little Heath students move to university. I have just received the following from them.

You may not be aware that The University of Nottingham runs one of the country’s most prestigious residential programmes – the Sutton Trust Summer Schools! This scheme gives high achieving students from WP backgrounds the chance to experience life as a first year undergraduate at a top university.

Applications are now open for the 2014 summer schools, and we’d really like to receive applications from your year 12 students. The programme is completely FREE of charge, with all accommodation, food, activities and travel costs covered. Students who attend at Nottingham receive additional admissions and revision support throughout year 13 as well. Plus, those students who attend a Nottingham Summer School and subsequently enrol at the University of Nottingham as undergraduates will automatically receive the Nottingham Potential Bursary – £1000 per year for each year of undergraduate study!!

We would particularly encourage applications for the following subject streams which tend to receive fewer applications, and are therefore easier to gain a place on:

  • Geography
  • Historical Studies
  • Life Sciences (Biology and Biomedical Sciences)
  • Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy)
  • Psychology and Philosophy
  • Language and Cultural Studies (no language experience required)
  • Sociology, Theology and Ethics

If you want to know more about the summer schools and their entry requirements then click on www.suttontrust.com – most importantly, the deadline for applications (which must be done through the website) is 10th March. I will put a copy of the brochure on the pin board outside my office.
