Gothic Film Season

mummy-1959-001-poster[1]If you are doing English literature A2, you have got to have a look at Gothic: The Dark Heart of Film, a season of films, TV and radio broadcasts organised by the British Film Institute.  It looks brilliant.  Listen to the launch clip and read what some of the panel of guests said about the Gothic genre:  Charlie Higson nails it when he says: “I love the idea of decent, upstanding citizens stripping away layers of mystery to discover the craziness and horror at the heart of things.”  The director of the BFI Heather Stewart also gave this great insight: “Gothic will celebrate the very British genius – rooted in literature and art – that gave rise to some of the most filmed characters in our on-screen history: Dracula, Frankenstein and Jekyll & Hyde. Gothic introduced the nation to sex, unleashing dark passions and breaking taboos along the way”
