Year Twelve Briefing notes – Week starting 23rd September

number12All,

The honeymoon is now really over, and the hard work building up. Please reflect carefully on last week’s assembly. The successful A Level student must be able to ask for help, and organise their time and work. This is a lot to ask, and please remember your mentors are there to help you. Use them.

This week, you have form time on Monday and Thursday, and a formal assembly with Ms Vignali on Tuesday. She will talk you through understanding the A Level grading and target setting systems. This is crucial stuff to help you plan ahead.

Finally, the community service lists will go up this week, and their is a girls-only careers fair in the main hall on Wednesday (there will be a boys only fair in the near future).

Have a good week.

Mr Kydd.

Careers Bulletin 200913

confused-characterLots of information in this weeks bulletin along with details of who will be at the Girls Careers Fair on Wednesday 25th September in the main school hall 9am- 12.20.  I strongly encourage all 6th form girls to pay a visit at some time during the morning.  All of the companies (many global) are actively looking to employ more females into their business at all levels.  Even if you are not interested in engineering, sciences, IT etc  please remember that  global companies have departments such as HR , Marketing, Legal Services, Hospitality etc to mention just a few.  I hope that you do come along, you are all extremely welcome and that you  find the information available at the Fair useful and helpful. Thank you

Smiley-faceA sincere thank you to all the Year Twelves, Thirteens (and Fourteens !) who gave up their time to help with Open Evening. It made a huge difference, and, as always, it is really appraciated.

Year 13 – Monday 23rd September

number 13On Monday at 1.20 there will be a brief but important assembly for the whole year group.  It is about fund raising on the November non-school uniform day for the Rwanda fund – our designated 6th Form charity.  Registers will be taken

There has been some confusion over the EPQ timetables.  If you applied and were interviewed but have still not had a timetable with your EPQ lesson on, please see me or Mrs Bullion.

Your UCAS applications and personal statements should be well under way by now.  Please talk to your subject teachers about your course choices and required grade predictions and give your mentors drafts to work on sooner rather than later.

Mr Hand

Match Report 1st XI v Windsor boys

stevegerrard_wideweb__470x316,0A tough fixture and the result 1 -4 did not really do you justice. Certainly their two second half goals were unlucky.  Special mentions for Louis Headley, Aqeel Butt, Josh Howell and Tom Snape, who all played extremely well.

A good game, just the wrong result.

                                           Mr Jubb.

A great site for English literature (and language) enrichment

downloadPlease click here for the excellent Angry Little Troll site. Its own mission statement suggests “this site is aimed at students (A Level through to undergraduate), teachers, and academics, working or interested in literary theory/English Literature. Over the coming weeks and months, the site will – hopefully – offer a selection of academic papers, “entries” on apsects of literature/literary theory studies, links to other sites of interest, and other miscellaneous tidbits.”

There is also a link to an english language section.

Mrs Morgan Russell.
