Week beginning 7th March

timeThis very short term is disappearing extremely quickly.

What you do now, over Easter and in the 5 – 7 school weeks after half term will go a long way to determining your grades.

Years 12s: you will be getting a letter soon reminding you of the requirements to carry on into Year 13.

Year 13: you should be deciding on your choices/applying for student finance (see below)/organising your next steps for jobs/careers.  Don’t leave your choices too long because you may miss out on your preferred accommodation choice.

Download this Easter Revision Timetable[1] to help you organise your time.

If you’re not sure about what you want to do next year, it is really important that you read the careers’ bulletin (see below).  Date for your diaries – there is an apprenticeship seminar on 14th March (next Monday) in the canteen between 1 and 2.

On 1st July, we are having Future’s Day for both careers and to start the UCAS process.

Welcome Back

Welcome backWelcome back for what is going to be a short term where lots of hard work is needed.  The study leave countdown has begun and each year has the following number of school weeks left before study leave:

  • Year 12 = 9 school weeks
  • Year 13 = 12 school weeks

Year 12 – Assembly in the main hall (Monday) and remember it’s parents evening on Thursday, students should come too.  All appointments are now booked online. You should have received information about this already.

Year 13 – Students should begin to firm up their university choices once they have received all of their offers.  Applications for Student finance open on Monday 29th February.  For all those students not going to university then now is the time to seriously consider your options.  Please read the careers bulletin each week, use Unifrog to search for apprenticeships, book an appointment to meet the careers advisor/Mrs Wooller or chat to Mr J about your options.

Week beginning 1st February

wicker man 2No assembly today.  Next week there will be one for Year 12s.

Reports will be going home next week.  Appointments for parents’ evening on the 25th Feb will now be made online with parents choosing their slots.  Details about how to do this will be sent home with reports.

Please make sure that you are seeing your mentors regularly and that you stick to the times you have arranged.  They will flag up crucial information that you will otherwise miss and will be the ones writing your references for employment or university.

About this time for the last few years, there has been a UCAS event in Reading, but there isn’t one this year.  The nearest one is at Brunel Uni and you will have to apply on line individually.  If you use the UCAS link at the top of this page you will find the excellent Open Days web site which you should look at if you are serious about uni.

Next Thursday at 3.30, Film Club will be showing The Wicker Man.  It’s a classic which any film fan should not miss.
