Year 12 – Potential Oxbridge Students

College-UG-index

If you are interested in applying for Oxford, Cambridge or a Russell Group university then we have two opportunities that would be very worthwhile you attending and applying for.

West Berkshire 6th Forms Oxbridge Evening – Thursday 26th February 2015 The focus of the evening will be on presentations from three admissions tutors; one from Oxford, a second from Cambridge and one from Durham. These staff play a key part in assessing and selecting students for their colleges each year.

They will talk about what is special about these two prestigious universities, who should consider applying and, once they have decided to apply, what will be required of them.  They will give advice on putting together personal statements and on giving your best in the interview.  There will be the opportunity for questions at the end – and students may wish to talk to them about subject or college choices individually. The aim is to provide the necessary information for all suitable Year 12 students in the area as they approach UCAS decision-making in the summer.  Applications to Oxbridge and Durham usually take a little more preparation in terms of wider reading, hence the date being sufficiently early in Year 12 to permit this.

The evening is held at St. Barts School, Newbury at 7pm.

If you would like to attend this evening, please see Mr Jessop by Friday 30th January.

UNIQ Summer Schools (July to August 2015)

This is a set of summer schools organised by Oxford University to help students understand what it would be like to study at Oxford or an equivalent university.  It is intensive, the academic work pushes them beyond the school curriculum and encourages the students to work independently. The social programme is varied and the admissions workshops are in-depth and interactive.  The programmes are free and for more information please go to this site.

If you need to talk about any of this or need further information then please speak to Mr Jessop or a member of the 6th form team.

Last week of term

WP_20141206_002It’s been a long term and the majority of the Year 13s who are applying for uni have got their applications sent off.  However, if you have been texted, it is still incomplete and your last chance to get it done before Christmas is to submit it by Wednesday.

Year 13 – there is a really important assembly for you on Wednesday this week at 1.20 in the main hall which you must attend.  It contains some vital messages!!!

Today, Year 13 should receive a text telling them which room to go to in order to log on to Show My Homework.  Pass words run out soon, so we want to make sure you are logged on before this.  If you are in Year 12 and didn’t log on, please make sure you do so asap.

Christmas Assembly for both years on Friday at 11.50 in the main hall.  It’s a nice way to end the year and we will be presenting the RWANDA CHARITY cheque from November’s fund raising.  You will need to come out of lesson 3 and some of lesson 4 for this.

Have a good week, and a Merry Christmas to all.
