UCAS Refs

ucasYour subject teachers should have completed their references for your UCAS applications by Friday 25th September.  These will then be collated by your mentor who will edit them, add material to your profile and then attach to the application.

You should ask your subject teachers what they have predicted you to inform your choices.

Your mentor needs to know when you have done your bit of the application, so please keep them in the loop.  If you have finished your application but not told/sent it to your mentor, they won’t know to add reference.  You must do pay/send before your application can be submitted.  If there are errors, it will be sent back to you and you will get a text.  Make the changes and send again.  You don’t get charged until the school sends it.  Once mentors have done their refs, Mr Jessop does a final check before sending it.  Again, if there are errors, it might be sent back to you for changes.

Oxford Brookes Experience 14th January for year 12

oxford bPlease let your mentor know if you would like to go to the event below.  We have 50 spaces so it is first come first served.

“I am writing from Oxford Brookes University to invite you to bring your Year 12 students to our Experience Brookes event on Thursday 14 January 2016. This will take place on our Headington Campus and will run from approximately 9:00am-3:30pm

This event was formerly known as our HE Conference and is an open day style event for students interested in progressing onto higher education. It aims to provide attending students with a real ‘day in the life’ experience of studying at Oxford Brookes University and will feature a wide range of interactive subject taster sessions delivered by Oxford Brookes academics, as well as some more general activities such as campus tours and presentations on UCAS and student finance. Attending students will be able to book onto sessions and activities in advance so that they only attend what is of interest to them.

This year’s event saw us welcome over 800 students to the campus and their feedback was really positive, as to both their enjoyment of the day and its role in increasing the likelihood of them applying to university. This coming January we are aiming to have even more subjects involved and to welcome over 1,000 students for the first time.

We are inviting a large number of schools and colleges, particularly those like Little Heath School with a strong tradition of sending students to Oxford Brookes, so for now I am able to offer you spaces for 50 students. The event will be quite Brookes specific. For the time being I would encourage you to prioritise students with a real interest in applying to Oxford Brookes (we offer the course they are interested in, they are likely to achieve the required grades, etc).”

littleheathThere is a joint assembly today for both Year 12 and Year 13.  Please make sure you register with your mentor as you arrive/leaveYou don’t need to register at 2.05 because of this, so no mentor meetings on assembly days.  The assembly is about the new House System and how you can get involved and also Community Service.

There will be a meeting at the end for all those interested in Vice Captain roles or working on the 6th Form Committee.

Tickets for the ice breaker event will also be on sale at the end.

Year 12s should be getting themselves organised now in terms of folders and files and notes.  It’s very important to do this effectively from the start.

House Captains and Vice Captains

castle-2Applications are now open for the House Captains (Year 13) and Vice Captains (Year 12).  Application forms can now be picked up from the sixth form reception and the closing date is Monday 14th September.

This is a great opportunity to be a pioneer of the new house system.  Your role will be to support the Head of House, support students and get involved in anything house related.  You will be in charge of over 400 students which will look really good on UCAS applications, job applications etc.

We are looking for a male and female captain and vice captain for each house.

Good luck!
