What is an apprenticeship?
An apprentice is an employee, earning a wage and working alongside experienced staff to gain job specific skills. Off the job, usually on a day release basis, apprenticess receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications such as National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ), Technical Certificates and Key Skills. An Apprenticeship generally takes between 1 – 3 years.
There are 3 levels :
Intermediate Apprenticeship – equivalent to 5 good GCSE passes
Advanced Apprenticeship – equivalent to 2 A Level passes
Higher Apprentceship – apprentice works towards a Level 4
